About

I was born in Guyana in 1975 and spent most of my childhood in the Caribbean where I nurtured an insatiable appetite for drawing and painting. At age 16, my fascination with the arts led me to pursue an Associate Degree in Fine Art, Mathematics, and Physics at the Barbados Community College. Ten years later I received a Masters of Architecture Degree from Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Florida. I am convinced that my training as an architect has greatly enhanced my perception and articulation of the spaces within my paintings. These spaces, rich and vibrant with color, emerge from behind the seemingly mundane facades of people and animals around me.

Painting allows me the freedom to explore and celebrate the rapture that is often hidden within the simple and mundane events of everyday life. My inspiration comes from the people and animals around me because I find them to be most fascinating. Behind their humble postures and seemingly placid dispositions lurks a world of inner beauty and intrigue – a world that relentlessly draws my curiosity. My work, therefore, is a testimony of my passion for life and for living.

The initial concept sketch plays a crucial role in setting the mood and tone of my painting experience. I always find it fascinating how the theme of a given work blossoms and unfolds. It is as if the painting becomes a living organism, with a story of its own, as inner instructions emerge to the surface to show me, the narrator, how to exploit the opportunities within the journey. Whether it is the selection of a specific color for a particular area of the canvas, or an adjustment to the overall layout of the composition, I realize that the more I surrender to these inner nudges, the more the story resonates.

My work is constantly evolving and I am very happy about this. Ever changing life conditions inspire new themes that ignite the fire of curiosity within me. I am acutely aware that every new painting places me at the threshold of an awesome and untamed adventure. The story, I am sure, will be uplifting to those who love my work. So, with my brush in hand, canvas on easel, and my palette filled with acrylic paint, I embrace the future adventures with joy and a sense of wonder.
